What German income tax law says about team events, in short. Ask your tax adviser about your own case.

    Getting to know each other, a Christmas party, a farewell or a thank-you after a project? New teams benefit from formats where everyone can talk while they work; established teams often like competition.

  2. Budget per person

    Budget gross and include everything: food, drinks and travel. Up to €110 per person stays tax-free for your team.

  3. Group size

    Cooking events and small studios have fixed caps. Large groups suit mobile formats or providers who can supply several rooms or hosts.

  4. Location

    At the provider's venue everything is ready; at your office you save travel and can stay on afterwards. Many creative workshops bring all materials to you.

  5. Language

    For international teams, ask for the event in English. Many Berlin providers offer both.

  6. Notice and cancellation

    Outside the Christmas season, two to four weeks' notice is enough for many providers. Check the cancellation terms in case headcount changes.

Is a team event tax-free in Germany?

Up to €110 per person and event, for up to two events a year, a team event is tax-free for your employees as long as everyone in the company or department may take part. All costs count towards the €110, VAT included. Ask your tax adviser for details.

How far ahead should I book a team event?

For regular dates, two to four weeks is enough for many providers. For December Christmas parties, providers recommend asking in October or earlier.

Which team events work at the office?
